Q Learning to read past the surface of the story (or film) is often difficult for students. It's important that students learn to think critically and past a brief summary. For this group discussion, students will take a closer look at Childish Gambino's "This Is America", and provide a brief analysis (200-300 words) covering the topics learned. Below I've listed some questions to consider. They simply serve as a starting point to get students thinking of the video differently. All responses must be supported by the video or a scholarly source. Some questions to consider: Why does he treat the gun with more care than the person he shot and what does that say about America? Why is there a man riding a white horse in the video? What does a white horse represent? What are the kids doing in the video? What does it mean that everyone is using their phones? What are Gambino's faces and gestures at the beginning of the video alluding to?
